Spring Friends + Family Day
2020 Event Details TBA
Olivia 'Queso' Vanni: I am looking forward to watching this chapter continue to grow and make larger, more wide-spread impacts across Orange County and Southern California.
Kina 'Fried Rice' Wong: Watching the children excitedly and unabashedly dump whip cream, paint, and silly string on their counselors' heads!
Madi 'Splash' Olson: My favorite Kesem memories are from hanging out, playing games, and having cabin chat with the Orange Girls!!!
Maddie 'Doodle' Chavez: My favorite Kesem memory is practicing for the talent show with Orange Girls! I'm looking forward to reconnecting with and meeting new Kesem family members as well as bringing smiles to their faces!
Elly 'Groot' Aronson: My favorite Kesem memories include making new friends who I get to call my Kesem family. Kesem has such a special place in my heart and I can't wait to help our chapter continue to grow!
Natalie 'Trix' Merkley: My favorite Kesem memory was empowerment. I grew up with a parent who was ill and it was isolating. I saw how much these children benefitted from being in an environment where everyone was there to listen and understand.
Larissa 'Lulu' Fielder: My favorite Kesem memory is making the 'Cancer Sucks' banner and throwing paint all over it with the campers.
Isa 'Apple' Basche: My favorite Kesem memory is Empowerment my first year as a counselor! This was the first time I truly saw the magic of Kesem in action. I remember being blown away by the strength, bravery, and love present amongst our campers.
Kevin 'Nike' O'Connor: What I am looking forward to the most this year at camp is sitting around the campfire with my Kesem family. The campfire, to me, is where everyone comes together and connects, proving why Kesem is magic.
Meagan 'Bean' Mitchell: My favorite Kesem memory is hearing the campers talk about Kesem after Empowerment, and seeing the kindness that they demonstrate towards one another. It's truly powerful to hear our campers say that they feel like a part of the Kesem family.
Melanie 'Shoo' Reilly: My favorite Kesem memory is the first time our camp sang "Brown Squirrel." The counselor who lead it was so animated and enthusiastic, I don't think I've ever laughed harder in my life!
Jacob 'Skittle' Carpenter: Empowerment was such an incredible experience for me. You get to see how strong everyone is, and it creates this incredible sense of family that makes Kesem what it is.
In addition to the year-round support, services, and training we receive from Kesem National,
we are grateful to those who provide support to our local Camp Kesem chapter including:
Our Advisory Board who provides ongoing guidance to our chapter’s leadership team.
Our corporate and foundation donors who provide critical resources to help fund the services we deliver locally.
The many retail and service providers who offer in-kind support for our summer camp as well as many or our year-round services.
Countless individuals – including our families and friends who honor our commitment to Camp Kesem with their financial support and unwavering encouragement.
Kesem’s national staff of over 30 professionals is involved in all aspects of establishing and supporting each of our 100+ chapters nationwide as well as the training and oversight of all college student leaders. Our leadership program has been developed over the last 17 years and, while both rigorous and demanding, is focused on providing the highest level of support, service and safety for the children who participate in our programs.
The Kesem Program Director for this chapter (see below) is involved in all aspects of camp and our additional services. While your local student leaders are your primary contact for questions, you are also welcome and encouraged to contact their Program Director with other specific questions.
Chelsea joined the Camp Kesem National staff as a Regional Program Director for the Southern California region in 2018. A Sacramento native, she made the jump to SoCal to attend UCLA, where is was involved with Kesem all four years. She graduated with a degree in Sociology and Education, and a passion for working with children. Even though she misses her dog back in Sacramento, she loves living in LA. In her free time, you can find Chelsea eating ice cream, catching up on the latest in pop culture, going to concerts, or exploring the city.
