Tyler “Seaweed” Goldberger: HEYY CAMP KESEM!! I’m Seaweed, and this is my FOURTH year at Camp Kesem Duke! I am a senior from Raleigh, North Carolina, and I have loved being part of such a special and magical community since my first days at Duke! I love to read, run, and fold laundry — I even have a Folding Laundry playlist! I love Kesem because everyone is accepted for who they are!!! I am so lucky to feel the Kesem Magic wherever I go. CK LOVE <3
Sarah “Racket” McMahon: I’m a senior from Chapel Hill, NC studying Psychology and Global Health. I am SUPER excited to be co-director this year and cannot wait to work with everyone! I love the incredible community between campers and counselors at Camp Kesem and the magic that is Kesem!
Tony “Bump” Dagher: HEY EVERYONE! I’m Bump and I’m a junior from Dayton, Ohio studying Biomedical Engineering. This will be my second year of Kesem and I can’t wait for another awesome week. My favorite part of camp was having the chance to meet so many awesome, inspiring people… oh and messy games too!
Yesha “Cabbage” Desai: I’m a junior from Long Island, New York majoring in Global Health and Evolutionary Anthropology. I love how Kesem offers a home and a community filled with love and magic for anyone and everyone!
Jason “Snap” Kim: I’m a part of the 2020 graduating class, studying biology with minors in psych. and chemistry. I am from Duluth, GA and have lived in the same house my whole life. I love that, within the Kesem family, there is nothing but joy and care that is shared among the counselors and campers. Everyone wants everyone else to be the best they can be and to be the happiest they can be. These kids really bring the best out of you.
Dominic “Pinecone” Tanzillo: Hey Camp Kesem!!! I’m a junior originally from California’s Bay Area. Thankfully, I found Camp Kesem my freshman year and immediately fell in love with the cause and my fellow counselors. Meeting the kids at camp is always humbling to see their resilience and strength. I always love Camp Kesem’s first day where counselors (especially new ones) have to adjust to doing challenges to keep the kids engaged and help set the tone for the rest of the week.
Emine “Net” Arcasoy: I am a sophomore from Chapel Hill, North Carolina. My favorite part of Camp Kesem is the dance parties!
Anna “Blank” Go: I’m a sophomore from Raleigh, NC, studying Biology and Computer Science. I LOVE everything about Camp Kesem and my favorite part of camp is doing cheers (that’s what I like best)!
Christian “Shell” Tanner: Hi! My name is Shell and I am a senior from Rye, NY. I am forever grateful that I found the fun and inclusive community that is Camp Kesem in my Sophomore year. The energy and excitement of everyone involved provides such a constant motivating force to help those children afflicted by a parent’s cancer. It’s through this energy that Camp Kesem creates such a magical environment for the campers and counselors alike and why I am so honored to be a part of it!
Matthew “Clover” O’Boyle: Hi there! I’m Clover, a Junior from Bangor, Ireland (hence the camp name!) I love the community that Kesem builds among campers and counselors alike and experiencing Kesem magic every year!
Brooke “Sparkle” Porter: I’m a junior from Riverside, California, majoring in Public Policy. I love Kesem because of the undeniable love and magic that unite the Kesem family.
Jessa “Pretzel” Bock: I’m currently a junior at Duke (Class of 2020) from Chester, New Jersey and my favorite part of Kesem is forming incredible relationships with campers and other counselors and watching the Kesem magic touch everyone! I joined because my mom had cancer, so I know how important a community can be while going through an experience like that.
Ethan “Toes” Astrachan: I’m a sophomore from Chapel Hill, NC, majoring in computer science and political science. My favorite part of Kesem is meeting all of the awe-inspiring campers.
Noey “Shout” Boldizsar: I’m a sophomore from Boca Raton, Florida, and I’m majoring in chemistry. My favorite part of Kesem is the strength of my campers.
Sujata “Toro” Kishnani: I’m a senior and I live 10 minutes away from Duke! I joined Kesem because summer camp was the best part of my childhood. It gave me my best friends and memories, from when we were eight to being counselors and serving as staff. I joined Kesem when I first heard about it from Scatter, the director two years ago. It has been the most meaningful part of my Duke experience, and I couldn’t be more grateful for it. The campers and counselors have touched my life, and I look forward to camp all year.
Joseph “Pop” Lee: Heyyyy Kesem! My name is Pop and I am a Junior from Phoenix, Arizona. My favorite part about Camp Kesem is seeing all the kids have the best time of their lives with all the campers and counselors. I especially love seeing all the campers perform their unique talents at the Talent Show!

Our leadership program has been developed over the last 17 years and, while both rigorous and demanding, is focused on providing the highest level of support, service and safety for the children who participate in our programs.
The Kesem Program Director for this chapter (see below) is involved in all aspects of camp and our additional services. While your local student leaders are your primary contact for questions, you are also welcome and encouraged to contact their Program Director with other specific questions.
