Christy “Salsa” Lopez: Meet Salsa, one of CK JHU’s directors! She is currently a junior studying public health with a music minor. She loves running, playing the piano, and spending time with her Kesem friends. When she isn’t busy with school, she enjoys traveling and trying new restaurants! She can’t wait for the upcoming year with the JHU Kesem family : )
Daniel “Guac” Parra: This is Guac, a senior Neuroscience major and Latin American Studies minor! Guac enjoys biking, running, gardening, and trying new foods with his Kesem friends. He Kesem’s because of the unexpected family and community he has found in the organization. Both amongst fellow counselor and campers he feels that genuine care and support is show all year long in the CK-JHU and he is excited to continue this creating this magic for years to come!
Archita “Artichoke” Goyal: This is Artichoke, one of CK-JHU’s new AMP coordinators! She’s a sophomore public health studies major, who loves hiking, playing classical guitar, and binge watching The Office. She absolutely loves Kesem because of the amazing kids and is so excited for this year!
Sam “Siren” Dominguez: Meet Siren! She is a junior majoring in Medicine, Science and the Humanities. She sings in an all girls acapella group (hence the name), and loves a good sci-fi novel. She loved her first year at camp last year and can’t wait to for next summer!
Elaine “Koala” Chiao: This is Koala, one of CK-JHU’s development coordinators! She is a junior majoring in molecular and cellular biology, and this summer will be her third year at camp. In her free time, she loves to catch up on sleep and explore different dessert shops around Baltimore. Having had a great time at camp these past two years, she can’t wait to plan and help make the magic happen again for all of our wonderful campers!
Sarah “Maple” Rihm: This is Maple, one of CK-JHU’s Development Coordinators! She is a junior Molecular and Cellular Biology major who’s excited for her 3rd year at Camp Kesem. Her favorite hobbies are to kayak and play board games in her free time. She can’t wait until summer to see all the campers again!
Julian “Oranges” Najera: Meet Oranges! He’s a sophomore chemical and biomolecular engineering major who like to play guitar and watch cheesy Netflix originals when he’s not trying to cram for exams. Last year was his first year as a camp counselor and is now more excited than ever to see all the talented kids perform at the Kesem talent show this coming summer.
Sarah “Boogadi” Baghdadi: This is Boogadi, one of CK-JHU’s Make the Magic coordinators! She is a Neuroscience and French major who appreciates good food and time spent with friends. She is so excited for Kesem this year and cannot wait to see all the campers and have an incredible time!
Declan “Wingz” Aroh: Declan, aka Wingz, is a current pre-med Junior majoring in Biology and minoring in Psychology. He’s been a part of CK JHU since his freshman year and is entering his 3rd year! He likes late night bike rides through the city and enjoys reading manga. He Kesems because he loves seeing his campers having fun, overcoming challenges, and making new friends.
Gabriel “Keyzzz” Yuen is a sophomore Biophysics/Mol Cell major from Denver, CO. This will be his second year at Camp Kesem! His two favorite things are music and sleep (hence the name). He loves Camp Kesem because of all the crazy ways the kids make him laugh the entire week!
Emily “BonBon” Bontrager: This is BonBon, one of the new operations coordinators this year! She’s a junior neuroscience major with a passion for camps songs. You can find her watching/playing soccer or going for a run. She fell in love with Kesem last year and can’t wait to do it all again!
Nicole “Mushu” Pagane: Meet Mushu, one of the Outreach Coordinators for CKJHU this year! She’s a senior biophysics major, who had a blast at her second camp this summer. When she isn’t gushing about how much she loves Camp Kesem, catch her nerding out over fantasy fiction (cough cough Brandon Sanderson) and space! At camp, she loves watching everyone get super messy at our paint and food wars, and getting everyone hype about Subarus!
Emma “Pickles” Elias: This is Pickles! She’s one of CK-JHU’s new outreach coordinators. Pickles is a sophomore majoring in Molecular and Cellular Biology and Sociology, and outside of schoolwork she loves volunteering at the animal shelter, playing violin, and working out. She can’t wait for her second year at camp next summer!
Megha “Bumblebee” Andrews is a junior Behavioral Biology major from South Jersey. She enjoys watching Netflix, trying new restaurants in Baltimore, and exploring new places in the city with her friends. Last year was her first year at camp and she loved it because the campers and counselors are all so much fun! She can’t wait to do it again!
Kevin “Flash” Chang: Meet Flash, one of the Volunteer Coordinators for CKJHU! He is a junior Medicine, Science, & the Humanities major from Long Island, NY. This year will be his third year at camp, and he is so excited to make this year better than the last. When he isn’t watching his favorite TV show, The Flash, he loves to travel and go to concerts!
Katelyn “Java” Macholl: Meet Java! As one of the new volunteer coordinators, she can’t wait to return for her second year of camp. Java is a sophomore biology and psychology double major. When she’s not studying, she loves hanging out with kids! Doing everything from making crafts, to pretending to ride a surfboard in the pool, Java is so excited to work with the #CKfam once again.

Kesem’s national staff of over 30 professionals is involved in all aspects of establishing and supporting each of our 100+ chapters nationwide as well as the training and oversight of all college student leaders. Our leadership program has been developed over the last 17 years and, while both rigorous and demanding, is focused on providing the highest level of support, service and safety for the children who participate in our programs.
The Kesem Program Director for this chapter (see below) is involved in all aspects of camp and our additional services. While your local student leaders are your primary contact for questions, you are also welcome and encouraged to contact their Program Director with other specific questions.
Zach joined the Camp Kesem National staff in 2017 as a Regional Program Director. Before doing so, he served as Co-Director at the University of Richmond, where he graduated in 2017 with a B.A. in Environmental Studies. Originally from Boston, Massachusetts, Zach now resides in Washington, D.C.
