Meet the Team

Grant 'Captain G' Schmarak: I am looking forward to seeing our returning campers who are amazing and meeting a lot of new ones too!

Melissa 'Guppy' Hamrick: Messy Games at camp last summer was SO MUCH FUN! It was so great seeing everyone just have fun, go crazy, and get a little messy :)

Samantha 'LaCroix ' Konigsberg: I’m so excited to meet everyone this year and to be able to grow my kesem family

Christine 'Stine' Nguyen: As someone who's family has been personally affected by cancer many times, I remember how difficult those times were, and I'm so excited to be a part of a support system for Kesem campers through their journeys.

Katie 'Sizz' Sissler: My favorite Kesem memory is roasting smores at night every single day after camp and singing songs around the campfire with all the other counselors and kids. It is always the perfect way to end an each amazing day at camp.

Madeline 'Maddog' Kahn: Playing in the messy olympics with all the other counselors and campers at our chapter's first camp and seeing everyone so happy was one of the most fun experiences I have ever had and is a memory I will hold on to forever.

Shira 'Ulti' Lyss-Loren: I'm looking forward to meeting our campers and connecting with them and giving them a home away from home.

Charlotte 'Crumpet ' Saville: Hosting a fabulous MTM event and being involved in all things Kesem- especially meeting the amazing people involved

Haley '' Bachl: This is my first year in Kesem so I am most excited about planning and attending camp in 2020!

Jonathan 'Fin' Kacvinsky: Empowerment was life changing it really put everything into perspective and hearing everyone’s stories created bonds and memories that’ll last a lifetime.

Tucker 'Pelé' Hirsch: When I was a camper at the UIUC chapter, I got to ride an alligator named Bubba!

David 'Gibby' Buchinsky: My favorite Camp Kesem memory has to be the fire dancer that came to our campfire last summer. I had never seen fire dancing before and loved the excitement of the experience! This year at camp I am looking forward to leading our camp songs!

Ian 'Beez' Welsh: Messy wars is always something I look forward to every year. In all of its colorful chaos, I think you would be hard-pressed to find something more fun!

Zachary 'Z' McMillen: My favorite Kesem memory was being able to come back after being a camper as a counselor.

Maya 'Kiki' Gonzales: Seeing the transformation in one of our more shy camper, Chef. His mother had passed away two weeks before camp, and seeing the way he came alive during camp was inspiring.

Marcus 'Beaker' Kunzmann: Working with all of our incredible campers is the best week of my life. Seeing smiles on all of our kids' faces makes me realize that love is so much stronger than cancer.

Jordan 'Chicken Nugget' Coley: Last year it was raining during pool time, so we kind of just had to sit in our cabins for an hour. But I was with the TLP unit, so we just spent the entire time talking about different books we liked.

Natalie 'Olive' Smith: My favorite Kesem memory was Empowerment. The campers were so brave for telling their stories and it was a truly inspirational experience. I look up to these kids and they taught me to always have a smile on my face no matter what I am going through.
